This part of the training provides a brief summary of the vicious flower metaphor that was introduced on Day 1 and sets the scene by looking at the systems that shape body image and the socio-cultural climate within which body image dissatisfaction develops.
In this section, we cover ways in which a client can start to buffer from some of the cultural factors and messages, including harm. We also cover shifting narratives and creating safety (creating a safe therapeutic climate and body inclusive spaces). We also cover how to work on creating helpful microclimates, how to engage in clinicians advocacy and how to 'dump' diet and wellness culture (in order to reduce harms).
In this part, we cover the roots of the vicious flower (the biological and genetic factors that can make someone more vulnerable to being impacted by experiences surrounding the body and the relevant socio-cultural factors). We also cover the stem and leaves and the relevant strategies and therapeutic approaches to address and heal the experiences that have shaped body image dissatisfaction.
In this section, we continue with strategies and therapeutic approaches to work with 'stem and leaves' including addressing the fantasy self and working with shame. We also cover deeper body image work including working with trauma, grief and identity. We finish off with a summary and consolidation of the content covered.
Thank you for participating in day 2 of 'Seeing the Whole Picture: Continuing body image work: Diving deeper and creating new narratives '. We hope you found the training useful in deep diving into the broader and historical factors relevant for body image .
You will find below a few things to wrap up your training and to support further learning.
If you liked the training - the biggest compliment is to share it

If you’ve found this training valuable so far, we’d love for you to share your experience — whether on LinkedIn, other social media, or simply by recommending us to your peers and colleagues. To make it easy, we’ve included a social media post and email signature you’re welcome to use to highlight your participation and let others know you’ve found the training beneficial.
